Production line

SIMBA is the answer to a special need in seafood packing and tracking. When a processing line can turn out a product that changes unpredictably from one carton to the next, labeling and inventory tracking both become difficult. SIMBA solves the labeling problem with a high speed bar code printer and touch screen menus that let a line worker change labels with a fingertip. SIMBA solves the inventory tracking problem through the speed and accuracy of bar code data collection. SIMBA captures catch weight with no operator involvement at all.

SIMBA prints a product label with the current set of characteristics. When any characteristic of the product changes (such as size, color, or grade), a line worker taps the new selection on a touch screen menu. Each time SIMBA prints a label, it adds a carton to inventory. Since all the characteristics of the product are known for label printing, they all are also captured as inventory data. If each different combination of characteristics corresponds to a specific product code, SIMBA can do that translation through a lookup table. SIMBA assigns a unique serial number to each box. SIMBA can take data from an electronic scale, to print or record exact weight.
