Accuracy
When data is handled manually, every step is an opportunity to introduce
an error. A worker, who is near the end of a 12 hour shift, scribbles
something on a carton. As the carton is loaded into a van, another worker
tries to read it and scribbles it on a clipboard. A clerk read the clipboard
and tallies it. Then the clerk writes up a bill of lading. How many errors
have occurred by the time someone reads that bill of lading?
Contrast the manual process with SIMBA’s bar code process. A computer
prints a carton label with a bar code. As the carton is loaded into a
van, a worker with a battery powered device scans the bar code. The data
is uploaded to a computer in the office. SIMBA summarizes the data and
prints a bill of lading. The time saved is more than just the tallying
and transcribing. It also includes the time you don’t have to spend
figuring out the mistakes and explaining them to your customer!
